Machete encounter on Knuckles

Well I promised you all some posts after my holiday to Sri Lanka, time has flown by already however the stares and smiles of Sri lanka have remained in my memory, along with some beautiful pictures too.

Our friend took us to the highest point around, forestry and wild lands above us and tea plantations below us.  We stood on a little strip of barren land to find 4 farmers living and working in the land of alternative therapies (Ayervedic Medicine was born here) and promoting well being while eeking out a living.  They’d clubbed together and were running a small vegetable farm on a steep piece of land. None of them had an ounce of fat on them, as you can see from the picture, they were pretty small too.

Apart from Aromatherapy and Indonesian Massage, I work in marketing for a Software Development House www.lightspeeditsolutions.co.uk.  Light Speed IT Solutions have a sister company, www.11plusswot.co.uk and we at 11 Plus Swot decided to do our bit for charity by taking part in a fun bike ride and raise some money for a worthy local charity; all the while getting and staying fit and promoting great well being.  Essex is a really pretty county and this ride will be just beautiful (weather permitting) through some of the villages of Essex.

Sharing in the beautiful lifestyle while in Bali

I’m going to give you a brief on some of the best training I have ever received while in Bali I spent some time with the ladies at Sekar Jakat in the south of the island.  It is where Club Med send their guests to receive genuine Indonesian, Balinese massage treatments, so I figured it must be good.  I’l break it into 3 parts.

It is European and Balinese owned Spa and is set in a stunning location and venue to train in the wonderful art of Balinese massage. Upon arrival the owner sat me down and asked me all about Aromatherapy oils that we use in the Northern Hemisphere and how I did my training, all the while sipping the most amazing ginger and honey tea out of a lotus flower shaped cup while a Frangipani flower was slipped behind my ear.

Joining a new gym

After over 4 years of not using a gym, sporadically riding my bike and completing a lot of travelling, I decided with a little persuasion to join the recently refurbished Evolve gym in Colchester University of Essex.  Firstly I have to say I am really impressed with it and secondly that I have actually been using it lots.

It isn’t the most convenient of locations as I pass by about 3 other gyms en route to his one, however the facilities are great.  Brand spanking new equipment and lots of space to work out which all contribute to it’s overall brilliance.  Having had £1.4million spent on it last year it is no wonder it is such a treat to use.   Continue reading →
